Laurent Blanc: I wish I'd joined Man Utd sooner

French great Laurent Blanc admits he regrets not signing for Manchester United sooner in his playing career.

Blanc joined United in 2003 at the age of 36 and spent two seasons at Old Trafford.

The Al-Rayyan coach recalled: "Sir Alex called me back in 1996 and wanted me.

"But then I had already signed for Barcelona, so it did not work. Instead, I went there at the end of my career.

"It was fantastic to play there and the only thing I regret now is that I did not come to United before."
