The Arsenal Women u21 head coach Lauren Phillips was recruited last summer from her previous job as assistant manager at Millwall Lionesses. She tweeted on Tuesday that she will now take on a new challenge.

Lauren, also known by her nickname ‘Potts’ – for those of us who have known her for many years as a player with Gillingham and Millwall – has had quite a successful season, winning the FA WSL Academy Cup against Manchester United.

The league form was a bit erratic as the scheduling was simply a mess, with games played in midweek and at the weekend but so many of them being postponed that ended up being recorded as walkover results.

Many Academy players were also involved with the first team throughout the season last year due to injuries and it has to be said, they did not look out of place when called upon.

Lauren is also an FA National Specialist Development Coach at The Football Association and has been travelling with the England squad at youth level to tournaments as well as her regular club commitments.

I was really pleased to see Potts take the job at the Arsenal Academy. It’s important to see players who have been involved in the game for a long time stay in the game and transmit their knowledge to the new generations.

Everyone at Daily Cannon wishes all the best to Lauren in her next job!
