Manchester City came from behind to defeat Aston Villa 2-1 and go second in the Barclays Women’s Super League on goal-difference.

Jordan Nobbs had already gone close for Villa, before Dan Turner volleyed home a stunning early goal with her back to goal from a Kenza Dali cross.

Turner narrowly avoided putting through her own net minutes afterwards, while a dominant Man City remained frustrated throughout the first half, as Lauren Hemp volleyed inches wide of the far post and Daphne van Domselaar denied Chloe Kelly with a sharp save.

Two Lauren Hemp goals in the space of five minutes turned the game around, the first a firm and free header on the hour from a Kelly cross, the second a far-post finish following Alex Greenwood’s header.

Van Domselaar turned a Hemp header round the post, Turner later survived penalty appeals for a tackle on Khadija Shaw.

While City are now goal-difference ahead of Arsenal having played a game more, Villa remain two points above the bottom two.
