Chelsea have really got their teeth into their next summer signing, and we’ve reached the stage where every update from the top dogs is a positive one, taking the deal another small step closer to completion.

Chelsea taking rapid steps towards Simons signing

Nothing is certain, but it feels like it would take a major disruption to end the Xavi Simons to Chelsea momentum now. As you can see above, Fabrizio Romano’s latest Tweet carries the story further forward.

His update from this morning claims that Chelsea and RB Leipzig “continue direct club to club talks” over Simon, and that the German side know how determined the winger is to join Chelsea. That may affect how determined they are to hold out for a high price.

Chelsea look to have already agreed personal terms with Simons, meaning it now comes down to just battling over a price with Leipzig.

The Red Bull club drive a hard bargain, but they are at least usually pretty transparent in what they want, and will make their demands clear to Chelsea, who will of course try to haggle them down, but will know what it will take to secure a deal.

We would imagine those talks are happening right at this moment.

Chelsea look to take advantage of Bayern distraction

Chelsea aren’t the only team interested – Bayern Munich have asked to be kept informed, but as Christian Falk said yesterday, the German side are distracted with other issues right now, giving Chelsea a good chance to swoop in and get a deal done before they are able to turn their attentions to getting into a bidding war.

Fans are getting very excited about Simons and his potential fit in this Chelsea side for next season.
