Things started to get into gear in the last week in terms of Chelsea’s sales for the summer, and that looks to continue now.
Fabrizio Romano has already Tweeted this morning about Kendry Paez and his potential move to Strasbourg on loan, following last night’s confirmation that Mamadou Sarr would be returning on a temporary deal to the side we just signed him from.
Now the Italian insider follows up with news of the third and final move to our sister club.
Fabrizio Romano’s Tweet about Mike Penders closing in on a Strasbourg loan move.
As has been expected for some time, it will be young goalkeeper talent Mike Penders who heads off to replace Djordje Petrovic in goal for the Alsatians.
This is a huge move for Penders – his talent isn’t questioned, but he’s still played very few senior games, and stepping up from one of the dominant teams in the Belgian league to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 is going to be a difficult moment.
We’re sure Chelsea have assurances that the teenager will be first choice – although he has his work cut out trying to play as well as Petrovic did last season.
According to Romano, the deal seems pretty much done. He says that “all formal steps are completed” for Penders to leave Chelsea on loan.
Paez’s deal is “up next,” and we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see both announced before the end of this week. That allows Liam Rosenior to get to work in preseason with Sarr, Penders and Paez all there and ready to contribute, with further additions on permanent deals from the transfer market also likely as the Alsatians look to build on a strong season.
