Chelsea are ready to reduce their asking price to around €25m for midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka according to reports.

Chuwuemeka has found himself surplus to requirements under Enzo Maresca, and the 21-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund reportedly had a €35m buy option for Chukwuemeka, which they decided not to activate, but they remain keen on signing the midfielder this summer.

Chelsea prepared to drop Chukwuemeka asking price

Dortmund aren’t the only club interested, with Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig also exploring a move for Chukwuemeka, as they look set to lose Xavi Simons to Chelsea.

Chukwuemeka managed just one goal in 17 appearances during his loan at Dortmund, but boss Niko Kovac has admitted he’s a big fan of the midfielder.

The former Aston Villa star has almost certainly played his final game for the Blues, but according to Bild via GGFN Chelsea could reduce their asking price to €25m, which would make him far more affordable for Dortmund.

Chukwuemeka reportedly only wants Dortmund, and a lower price tag could make a move far more likely, although there’s still work to be done.

The Englishman joined Chelsea from Villa in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £20m, but his time at the club has been plagued by injury, and he’s made just 32 appearances in three seasons.

Xavi Simons deal close

With Chukwuemeka set to leave, the Blues are closing in on the signing of Xavi Simons, and are reportedly at the final stages of negotiations.

Simons reportedly wants the move, and Leipzig are said to want a total package of £60m, which would be similar to what the Blues paid for Joao Pedro.

Personal terms are thought to be nearly agreed, although an official offer is yet to be placed for Simons, who can play both on the left , and as number ten.
