Lazio are reportedly hellbent on bringing Maurizio Sarri back to the club as Marco Baroni’s departure appears imminent.

Although no official announcement was made, almost all sources agree that Baroni is set to part ways with the Aquile in the coming hours. The 61-year-old enjoyed an inspiring start to the season, with the club competing on all fronts, but he completely lost the plot in the final months of the campaign.

According to Il Messaggero (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), the management has identified Sarri as the best choice for the role. The 66-year-old was at the helm between the summer of 2021 and March 2024 when he resigned from his post after losing control of the locker room.

But as the newspaper explains, Lazio president Claudio Lotito would be happy to bury the hatchet with the former Napoli and Chelsea tactician and bring him back to Rome. The source also quotes the club patron inviting Sarri to return by noting that the locker-room senators who rose against him (Ciro Immobile, Luis Alberto and Felipe Anderson) have already been offloaded.

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla (who is famously close to Sarri) also reports that Lazio are determined to reignite their collaboration with the experienced manager, but the directors are simultaneously working on a few fallback solutions, especially Gennaro Gattuso. Hence, Lazio officials will hold a meeting with the Milan legend.
