Newport County would have been hoping to make a positive start to the 2022/23 campaign under the guidance of James Rowberry.

However, after losing eight of their opening 13 league games, the Welsh outfit opted to part ways with Rowberry.

Currently on the lookout for a new manager, it will be interesting to see what direction Newport decides to take when it comes to this latest appointment.

Rowberry had not managed a club before being handed over the reins at Rodney Parade and thus his appointment was always going to be a risk.

Given that Newport are only two points clear of the relegation zone, they could be dragged into a battle for survival if they fail to nail their recruitment.

Here, we have decided to take a look at the latest news concerning the club’s search for a new manager…

A report from The Independent recently revealed that David Webb had been interviewed by Newport over the vacancy at the club.

Webb was part of Mauricio Pochettino’s backroom staff at Tottenham Hotspur.

Another individual who has recently emerged as a front-runner for the Newport job is Mark Cooper.

As per the Stroud Times, the former Barrow boss is understood to have held talks with the Exiles over a move to the League Two club.

If Cooper is appointed, Richard Dryden is expected to link up with him at Newport after working alongside the 53-year-old at Barrow.

In what year did Craig Reid join Newport?

2007 2008 2009 2010

During his time in charge of Forest Green Rovers, Cooper led the club to promotion from the National League in 2017.

Cooper has also previously had mixed managerial spells in the Football League with Swindon Town, Peterborough United and Notts County.

Whereas Cooper led Swindon to the play-offs in League One in 2015, he was sacked after just 13 games in charge of Posh.

Relatively unsuccessful during his time at Barrow, Cooper only managed to oversee 12 victories in 46 games before leaving the club in March.

With Newport aiming to install a new manager it will be interesting to see who is selected to lead the club into a new dawn.
