League Two transfers slowed down slightly as the week progressed but with only ten days remaining in the window the pace of the business should increase with the deadline in sight.

The evenly matched nature of the division can see January gain further importance, with clubs having the chance beat their rivals, off the pitch, before building towards the business end of the season.

The automatic promotion race in the fourth tier has been re-ignited in the last few weeks and there will even be teams outside of the top seven who will believe they can sneak into the top three if they can go on a run, and add some finishing touches to their squad before we enter February.

Here, we have taken a look at the latest League Two transfer news…

Leyton Orient sign Jordan Lyden

Lyden, who played 21 league games as Swindon Town won the League Two title under Richie Wellens in 2019/20, has been reunited with his former manager at Brisbane Road.

Wellens will be hoping that the versatile midfielder can help Orient’s bid to top the fourth tier, with the 26-year-old Aussie coming in after being a free agent since the end of last term.

Lyden came through the youth ranks at Aston Villa but has struggled to settle down in the EFL, and he has the rest of the season to convince the club to extend his contract by an extra 12 months.

Balagizi returns to Liverpool

Crawley Town have terminated James Balagizi’s season-long loan from Liverpool due to injury.

The 19-year-old has only featured once since the turn of the year, and sending him back to Anfield opens up another loan slot at Broadfield Stadium.

Scott Lindsey’s men now only have four loanees at the club, of the five domestic ones that can be named in a matchday squad, and therefore ending Balagizi’s loan spell could give them room for manoeuvre in looking to strengthen the group in the next ten days.

Crewe Alexandra bolster forward line

The Railwaymen have signed David Amoo on a free transfer after the forward left Stevenage.

The 31-year-old is closing in on 200 appearances in League Two in his career, and has signed a deal at Gresty Road until the end of the season.

Crewe’s attacking contingent needed addressing following Courtney Baker-Richardson’s long term injury, and with Amoo struggling for game-time at second-placed Stevenage, this looks like a smart and low-risk pick-up for Sam Bell’s side.
