Permanent transfers are far less common in January than they are in the summer window, but that has not stopped clubs posting statements of intent in the form of incoming players.

Here, we have taken a look at the latest League Two transfer news…

Gillingham are seriously active this month

Gillingham confirmed the signing of Timothee Dieng from Exeter City for an undisclosed fee on Wednesday.

Dieng was a crucial player in the Grecians sealing automatic promotion from the fourth tier last term and represents huge ambition from the club.

A fee has also been paid to bring Mansfield Town’s Oli Hawkins to the club, the former Portsmouth man should go on to contribute in both boxes as the Gills battle the drop.

Following those two eye-catching additions, we brought you the exclusive that the Gills are eyeing an ambitious move for Peterborough United striker Jack Marriott, who has been a dependable forward option in the Championship in the not too distant past.

Crewe bolster their attack

A long term injury to Courtney Baker-Richardson has made things difficult for the Railwaymen in recent weeks, but the club have responded to bring in Elliott Nevitt from Tranmere Rovers.

The 26-year-old arrived for an undisclosed fee and has signed a deal running until the end of next season at Gresty Road.

Crewe have endured a fairly turbulent season on and off the pitch, but the addition of Nevitt should lighten the workload on their other forward options during Baker-Richardson’s absence.

Harrogate Town strengthen defence

The Sulphurites confirmed the signing of Anthony O’Connor from League One Morecambe on Wednesday, with Simon Weaver hoping that the 30-year-old can help Town pull away from the relegation picture.

The Irishman made 40 appearances in the third tier last term as the Shrimps stayed up under Derek Adams, a season that included O’Connor getting on the scoresheet in the Shrimps’ 3-1 loss at Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup.

Time will tell if O’Connor can provide the defensive solidity that will be required for Harrogate to steer clear of any relegation concerns, currently having a four-point cushion on the bottom two.
