The League Two transfer merry go round is starting to get into action as teams look to beat the January 31st deadline.

All 24 League Two sides will be looking to use these remaining 8 days of the window as an opportunity to improve in certain areas as they look to make a final push towards their targets.

It is likely as we now enter the final stretch that all 24 teams will be looking to get deals over the line sooner than ever, as they want new players fitting into their squads.

Teams at the top will be looking to add that key player who could make a difference between the play offs and promotion, while teams near the bottom will be hoping fresh additions can steer them away from the relegation zone.

Here at FLW, we have looked at some of the transfer news that is going around in the division.

Doncaster Rovers deal falls through

Doncaster Rovers held an interest in signing Peterborough United left back Joe Tomlinson this month.

However, according to a report from the Doncaster Free Press, the managerial change at Posh meant any deal for the left back was scuppered.

Peterborough have just re-hired Darren Ferguson as their new manager and it was him that signed Tomlinson from Eastleigh on a three-year deal in 2021.

This report states that Tomlinson had been in South Yorkshire and was ready to sign on loan until the end of the season.

However, it is now believed that Ferguson wants to assess the 22-year-old, who has played six times this season, before deciding whether to allow him to leave. Unfortunately, Tomlinson has since picked up an injury with an unknown return date, while Doncaster have now turned their attention to targets in other positions.

Hartlepool United have today confirmed the loan signing of Leicester City goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk.

The 22-year-old has joined the League Two outfit on loan for the rest of the campaign. The young goalkeeper joined the Premier League side in 2019, but has yet to make a first team appearance however, he did feature on the bench in Leicester’s Europa League game against Legia Warsaw in 2021.

This, however, isn’t the first EFL loan spell for the 22-year-old as he was at League One side Fleetwood Town in the first half of this season and played an important role in their FA Cup run.

Hartlepool boss Keith Curle spoke on the capture of Stolarczyk: “We’re delighted to bring Jakub to the club. We can see from his two previous loans the success he has had, and he provides good competition for Ben. We know he will work well alongside Ben and Kyle, and we thank Leicester for allowing us to bring him in.”

Midfielder extends stay at Northampton

Jack Sowerby has signed a new deal at Northampton Town, extending his stay at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 27-year-old has been at Sixfields since the summer of 2020, and during his time at Northampton, he has made 91 appearances for the club to date.

The midfielder is an important part of Jon Brady’s team, as he has appeared 21 times in League Two this season.

Sowerby has been crucial for the Cobblers since they returned to League Two a couple of seasons ago, with the midfielder appearing 34 times in the league last season and playing a part in Northampton reaching the play offs.

Brady spoke of his delight on the news: “This is more good news for the club. Jack is a player who goes about his business in a quiet and efficient way and is someone who is very important to us.

“He fits in well with the other midfielders we have at the club, and he was another player we were very keen to keep.

“On and off the field, we are building a culture at the club that players want to be a part of. It is no coincidence that players like Jack, Jon Guthrie, Mitch Pinnock and Aaron McGowan have committed to new contracts. This gives us stability and certainty and increases the core group of good players who are under contract with the club.”
