It could prove to be a crucial month which could define many clubs’ prospects for the rest of the season and there is no shortage of speculation around as the window hots up.

Here is some of the latest transfer news from the third tier.

Wednesday considering defender return

Sheffield Wednesday are in the market for defensive reinforcements this month following Mark McGuinness’ recall by Cardiff City and with Reece James, Michael Ihiekwe and Ben Heneghan currently out injured.

The Owls had reportedly enquired about Burnley’s Luke McNally, but The Star report that they now face competition from Championship clubs for his signature, with Vincent Kompany preferring for him to remain in the second tier.

Another name under consideration is Michael Hector, who is currently a free agent following his release from Fulham in the summer.

The 30-year-old, who earlier in the campaign, previously had a successful loan spell at Hillsborough in the 2018-19 season, establishing himself as a firm fan favourite and winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

Wednesday manager Darren Moore confirmed Hector is currently training with the club as he weights up whether to offer him a deal.

“We’ve had Michael Hector in with us already, we’re just taking a look. It’s great to see him, give him that platform and he is an option. We are just taking it steady with him at this moment,” Moore said in the club’s pre-match press conference.

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Arsenal defender Harry Clarke for a reported seven-figure fee.

Clarke spent the first half of the season on loan in the Championship with Stoke City and had been a regular for the Potters in recent weeks, so it is something of a coup for the Tractor Boys to convince him to drop down to the third tier.

The 21-year-old returns to the club where he started his career and he is delighted to be back at Portman Road.

“It’s been a long couple of days but what a feeling to be back,” Clarke told the East Anglian Daily Times.

“I’m home and it feels good. The style of play is something I really like, and I want to be a part of it.

“The conversations with the manager have been great and he solidified my decision to come back. I can’t wait to step out of the tunnel at Portman Road, it will be an amazing feeling.”

Clarke becomes the club’s fourth signing of the window after the additions of Massimo Luongo, George Hirst and Nathan Broadhead.

League One sides Barnsley and Charlton Athletic and League Two leaders Leyton Orient are all interested in Bolton Wanderers midfielder Kieran Sadlier, as we exclusively revealed.

Sadlier has struggled for regular game time at the University of Bolton Stadium and although he has made 18 league appearances this season, just one of those has come as a start.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Trotters last January from Rotherham United, has shown his ability with four goals and three assists in all competitions and he has no shortage of suitors.

However, we understand that Bolton are , which could potentially give Orient the edge in the race.
