Doing business in the winter window can be costly but with battles raging on at both ends of the third tier, the right additions can also be the difference-maker when May rolls around.

With the window closed, the full focus will soon return to the football but for the time being, the fallout of late window deals dominates the headlines.

Here is all the latest League One news…

Paddy Lane fee revealed

Portsmouth paid £250,000 plus add-ons to sign Paddy Lane from Fleetwood Town on transfer deadline day, according to Andrew Moon from the BBC.

The 21-year-old won the League One Player of the Year award in 2021/22, which his first season in the EFL after joining Fleetwood from non-league side Hyde United.

Lane, who is comfortable in midfield and on the flanks, scored five goals and provided eight assists as he helped the Fishermen avoid relegation from the third tier last term.

But he’s now a Pompey player and has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at the South Coast club.

Derby County have won the top-flight title on two occasions

Derby County secure double Arsenal deal

Derby County beat the deadline to sign not one but two Arsenal players on loan until the end of the season.

The Rams landed 20-year-old Kido Taylor-Hart and 19-year-old Billy Vigar on deadline day.

Both are attacking players but Taylor-Hart is a left-winger by trade while his Gunners teammate is comfortable as both a winger and a wing-back on the right.

Paul Warne will be hoping the Premier League loan pair can help his side battle their way into the automatic promotion places in League One.

Ipswich Town striker Gassan Ahadme rejoined former club Burton Albion on loan on deadline day.

The Tractor Boys bought the 22-year-old from Burton on the final day of the summer transfer window after a fast start to the season at the Pirelli but he’s played less than 150 minutes of football for Kieran McKenna’s side since.

With more forward firepower arriving at Portman Road this month a loan deal makes sense and the Brewers are the only viable option as FIFA rules dictate a player can only represent two clubs in a single season.

Ahadme is still young and has a contract that runs until 2025 so will likely get another chance to prove himself to McKenna in the summer.
