Sacha Tavolieri on a potential move for Djordje Petrovic.

Sacha Tavolieri has just claimed on his Twitter account that newly-promoted Sunderland are “close to finalizing” a deal to sign Djordje Petrovic from us, following his excellent year on loan with our sister club Strasbourg.

It was expected that Petrovic would be competing with Robert Sanchez to be our number one this season, and there was a fair amount of surprise that he was left out of the Club World Cup squad to stay at Cobham and find a permanent move away from the club.

The Black Cats had already swooped for Habib Diarra, another player who helped Strasbourg come to within moments of a Champions League finish last year. Their French owners clearly are targeting the best young Ligue 1 talents of last year, and there’s no doubt that Petrovic is among them.

Chelsea make solid profit on goalkeeper dea;

Many Chelsea fans will be frustrated that he’s not getting another chance in goal for us. Most of us rate him higher than Sanchez, who lost his place to the Serb the season before last when they were in direct competition under Mauricio Pochettino.

However, €25m represents a solid profit on what we paid for him, and means we’ve complied with our gentleman’s agreement to sell him. It’s also another useful boost to our FFP and PSR numbers following some major purchases.
