Conceding late goals is starting to look like a problem for Inter Milan after their Supercoppa Italiana collapse against AC Milan.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
Inter were left with a very bitter taste after capitulating a 2-0 advantage against city rivals AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final on Monday.
The entire second half from the Nerazzurri was nothing short of a collapse.
However, it at least looked like the match would head to penalties. Milan had stunned Inter by scoring twice to erase the Nerazzurri’s lead, but then took their foot off the gas.
If anything, in the closing stages of the final, Inter were the team pushing harder for the winner.
However, that left space for the Rossoneri to exploit in stoppage time.
As Tuttosport, that was not the first time that Inter have let a result slip late this season.
Early on in the campaign, draws with Genoa and Monza came about as Inter’s defensive solidity dropped off late in matches.
Then, in the first league derby, Milan previewed their Supercoppa comeback by scoring late.
Juventus also scored twice late to earn a 4-4 draw against Inter.
Napoli, meanwhile, didn’t manage to score a late winner against Inter. But they had a very good chance to in stoppage time.
And in the Champions League, the Nerazzurri held out well against Bayer Leverkusen before finally switching off right in the closing stages.
All of this has led to questions about Inter’s ability to keep up their defensive effort for a full ninety minutes.
