The Ibrox side got the start they were looking for, snatching the lead just before the half-hour mark. A superb James Tavernier cross picked out Todd Cantwell, who slotted the ball home in off the underside of the bar.

While it looked to be smooth sailing for the home side, there was a twist in the tale as St. Mirren leveled the scoreline in first-half stoppage time.

After smoothly controlling the ball on the edge of the box, Mark O’Hara stunned the home crowd by firing the equaliser into the back of the net with nearly the last kick of the half.

It did not take long for Rangers to reclaim their supremacy after the break, as Fashion Sakala fired the hosts back into the lead less than five minutes into the second half.

Dramatically, Mark O’Hara silenced the home fans once again, reclaiming parity for the Buddies with just over 20 minutes remaining.

The drama would not end there however. While it looked as if St. Mirren would snatch an unlikely point at the Ibrox, Alfredo Morelos dashed the visitors’ hopes by firing home two goals in less than two minutes.

Second half substitute Scott Arfield slotted in Rangers’ fifth on the day to drive the final into the St. Mirren coffin, making what was a dramatic day in Glasgow look anything but.
