Despite racing into a 2-0 lead, Eintracht Women went down 3-2 in Friday’s crunch clash at Wolfsburg.

Eintracht Women could not hold on to a 2-0 lead on Matchday 7 of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga, slipping to a 3-2 defeat against title rivals VfL Wolfsburg. Niko Arnautis’ team got off to a dream start, showing ruthless efficiency in front of goal and taking the lead in just the fourth minute courtesy of a Lara Prasnikar strike. Laura Freigang doubled the lead on the break in the 20th minute, but Dominique Janssen halved the deficit with a lovely free-kick on 34 minutes. Injury-time drama Wolfsburg piled the pressure on the Frankfurt goal in the second half, with Jill Roord converting a corner in the 66th minute to equalise. And then with the last attack of the game in the fifth minute of time added on, Felicitas Rauch sent a free-kick into the box and Janssen was able to head home over Merle Frohms, who had come way off her line to try to punch clear (90’+5). Head coach Niko Arnautis: “This defeat is really tough to take. We put a heck of a lot into the match and much like in the cup final, we lost the game in the very last minute once again and have to go home empty-handed. Wolfsburg certainly piled on the pressure and created a lot of chances, but a point would have been a fair outcome. These are the kind of things that you have to go through as a team and that will make us stronger in the future.”
