Last Chance or Last Goodbye? Wydad Board Battles Benhachem Over Sakhi
The management of Wydad Casablanca's making last effort to convince head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem to reverse his decision to release midfielder Hamza Sakhi ahead of the 2025 /26 season.
Sakhi underwent the mandatory medical examinations on Monday required by the Moroccan Football Federation in preparation for possible return to full training with Wydad. The new Botola Pro season officially begins on 12 Sep.
Benhachem'd previously excluded 19 player from his plans including Sakhi leaving the player out of his initial project for the coming campaign.
However Wydad’s board's reportedly pushing for compromise believing Sakhi could still bring valuable depth & experience to the squad.
According to reports, the club hopes Benhachem will allow Sakhi to participate in the pre season camp before making definitive call on his future.
While the midfielder remains outside the coach’s tactical vision, management insists that trial period could help reassess his role.
Wydad've already offloaded several unwanted players including Mehdi Moubarik & Jamal Harkass while loanees such as Cassius Mailula also departed.
At the same time, the club bolstered its roster with signings like Abdelghafour Lamirat (Olympic Safi), Hamza El Wasti (Ittihad Tangier), Walid Saber (Chabab Zemamra) and Joseph Pakasso (Meniama).
For now Sakhi’s fate rests on whether management can convince Benhachem to give him one last chance in the red shirt.
