Las Palmas are set to welcome captain Jonathan Viera back into to the fold after he was left out of the squad for three consecutive matchdays.

Viera went AWOL in search of a move to the United Arab Emirates, where it was believed he had a lucrative offer on the table. At 34, it could well have been his last big contract, but Viera has a contract until 2026.

President Miguel Angel Ramirez told Marca that they were putting the incident behind them.

“We have let Viera know that it is important and we have started a new cycle.”

“He was not at ease, but things have returned to normal. He has this and two more seasons on his contract. I think that at least this year he will continue.”

One of the other elements to the equation is that manager Francisco Javier Garcia Pimienta had been leaving Viera on the bench prior to his leaving, something Ramirez was also asked about. It seems it will be up to Garcia Pimienta to resolve matters with Viera.

“Garcia Pimienta needs good footballers and Viera is one. Sooner or later he will play again for UD Las Palmas.”

“The club has done its part, now it is up to the coach to make the decision.”

Las Palmas have gone from strength to strength in recent weeks, barely missing Viera, although he does add an element of quality few others in the squad do. One of the most creative players in the division, Garcia Pimienta’s man management skills are set to be put to the test.
