Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has dropped a very strong hint that Fikayo Tomori is closing in on a loan exit amid links with AC Milan.

We reported last night that the new hot name for defence is indeed Tomori, who would be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan. After long negotiations with Strasbourg over Mohamed Simakan, therefore, Milan could opt for a different solution in the end.

The Telegraph meanwhile are reporting that Milan are among the clubs showing a strong interest in Tomori, and they are ready to offer an 18-month loan deal for the Englishman, who they also wanted on loan during the last transfer window.

Lampard was asked by reporters about what the future holds for Tomori, and the Chelsea boss confirmed that while a permanent exit is certainly not on his agenda, Tomori could benefit from a loan spell.

“He absolutely has a long-term future. We will see if and when he goes out on loan. I took him on loan to Derby and he was one of the best players in the Championships,” he said (via AbsoluteChelsea).

“There is a long-term plan for Fikayo in my head and if he goes out on loan it will be to enhance his personal development and come back as a better player.”
