The ugly divorce between Atlético Madrid and Antoine Griezmann continues.

It has been a sorry saga for much of the summer and has taken a fresh twist due to an unusual request from the Rojiblancos.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas has confirmed that he has received a request from Atlético to suspend Griezmann’s playing licence.

Speaking to Onda Cero’s El Transistor, he revealed that the striker’s former employers have been in contact with the league.

“Atlético sent us a letter and questioned whether we should give a licence to Griezmann at Barcelona,” Tebas stated.

“We do have the ability to block a player’s licence. The process is open.

“It is up to the people involved to find a resolution.”

The complaint from Griezmann’s former employers stems from the fact that they feel they are owed an additional €80m from Barça.

Atlético claim that there was an illicit agreement between the Frenchman and Barcelona prior to 1 July, when his release clause dropped from €200m to €125m.

As a result, they are asking for the playing licence to be suspended until the situation is resolved.
