MLS returned for some midweek action Wednesday evening and there were some stunning results. Let’s dig into some of the biggest showdowns Wednesday evening.

Minnesota’s superb run of form came to a screeching half in one of their toughest tests so far this season, as they fell away to LAFC.

A Mateusz Bogusz stunner in the dying minutes killed off any potential late turnaround from the visitors.

The Black and Gold leapfrogged the Loons in the Western Conference as a result, moving to within two points of leaders Real Salt Lake.

Nashville shock Cincinnati at TQL

Scorers: Maher 25′, Shaffelburg 29′

Cincinnati’s seven game winning streak came to an end as manager-less Nashville stormed into TQL to stun the hosts with two goals in four minutes.

A win would have seen Pat Noonan’s side become just the second ever MLS side to win eight consecutive games, but they’ve missed their chance to make history and surpass Inter Miami at the top of the East at the same time.

Meanwhile, Nashvilel are still reeling from the departure of Gary Smith, but a win in Cincinnati is perhaps their biggest result of the season.

Messi returns but Atlanta stun Miami away from home

Scorers: Messi 62′; Lobzhanidze 44′, 59′, Thiaré 73′

Inter Miami suffered their first defeat since March as a struggling Atlanta United side snatched a gutsy victory in south Florida.

Despite the return of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets to the lineup, Tata Martino’s side could seemingly not deal with Atlanta’s impressive counterattack.

A brace from Saba Lobzhanidze and a late third was all the Five Stripes needed to claim a major scalp and perhaps start to turn their season around.

Montréal down D.C. United in six-goal thriller

Scorers: Lassiter 6′, Ibrahim 34′, Choinière 38′, Sunesi 73′ ; Benteke 29′, 42′

It will potentially go down as one of the games of the season, though a late first-half red card seemingly killed the up-and-down nature of the clash.

However, Montréal got back to winning ways after a five-goal first half saw them just ease past D.C. United lead by the in-form Christian Benteke.
