LAFC play host to Real Salt Lake in a top-of-the table clash in Major League Soccer play at BMO Stadium.

The 2022 MLS Cup winners are coming off a nightmare performance at home against reigning league champions Columbus Crew. Many were expecting one of the best contests of the 2024 season but instead the Crew battered the Black and Gold, winning 5-1 with three total red cards issued during the match. However, LAFC still remain atop the Western Conference with 43 points, ahead of RSL by three goals on goal difference.

Salt Lake are enjoying a terrific season under head coach Pablo Mastroeni, as a win over LAFC would propel the team to first place in the West. RSL are fresh off a 3-0 defeat to Phil Neville's Portland Timbers, and the team will hope to get back on track Wednesday night. Though, RSL will be without Cristian Arango after he was suspended four games by MLS for violating the league's Anti-Harassment Policy.

Here's 90min's guide to LAFC vs Salt Lake.

Two of LAFC's most important defenders were sent off in the heavy defeat to the Crew. Center-back Jesus Murillo saw a straight red card while Sergi Palencia was issued a second yellow card in the loss, giving LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo a headache when it comes to team selection for Wednesday night.

As Uruguay's Copa America run has concluded with their third place victory over Canada, Cristian Olivera is set to return to the squad in the coming days.

Mastroeni will be without a few key players for the upcoming contest vs LAFC, including center-back Justen Glad who is still on the treatment table with a hamstring injury. Midfielder Pablo Ruiz suffered another long-term setback earlier in June with a knee injury and his return date is unknown.

Arango, the league's top goalscorer with 17, was set to miss the match through yellow card accumulation, but he's now suspended for four games.

LAFC vs Real Salt Lake score prediction

After suffering a heavy defeat to one of the league's best teams, LAFC will have the chance to prove their quality against another in-form side in RSL.

LAFC aren't too shabby themselves and will want to get back on track as soon as possible -- they were MLS Cup finalists last season, after all. Salt Lake will give them problems, though as the points will be shared in the late-night showdown at BMO Stadium.

Prediction: LAFC 2-2 Real Salt Lake
