According to L’Équipe, Los Angeles FC are targeting an ambitious swoop for Atlético Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann (33). The France international’s contract in the Spanish capital is set to expire in June 2025 meaning if a contract agreement was not reached he would be able to leave as a free agent.
Griezmann could be on the move this summer. The 33-year-old has a €10m release clause inserted in his contract with the La Liga club meaning he would be able to leave for a relatively small fee. The MLS club would not struggle to match this release clause this window meaning he could be playing stateside before the transfer window shuts. However, it remains to be seen whether the Frenchman would accept a move to the Californian club. In the past, he has made no secret of his desire to finish his career in the US.
If he was to make the switch to LAFC, he would follow in the footsteps of his former international teammates Hugo Lloris and Olivier Giroud who have joined the club within the last 12 months. Nevertheless, it could be his international career that hinders a move. Griezmann had targeted featuring for France at the 2026 World Cup in North America before then making the switch to the MLS. The 33-year-old seeks to discuss his international career with Didier Deschamps before making a decision on the move.
