He joins Major League Soccer after recording 26 goals and 13 assists in 96 appearances for Saint-Etienne during three seasons in Ligue 1.

“Denis is a proven attacker in the prime of his career and is an excellent complement to our group,” LAFC co-president and general manager John Thorrington said in a release. “He is a player in high demand, and we are grateful he and his family have chosen to continue his career in L.A. in order to help us achieve our ultimate goal of winning trophies.”

The deal, closed at a reported $5m, was completed by LAFC just before the MLS Secondary Transfer Window closed Thursday night. Bouanga now stands as the team’s third and final Designated Player, joining Carlos Vela and Brian Rodriguez.

The newest addition works to give head coach Steve Cherundolo more options up top, with Vela, Gareth Bale, Cristian Arango and Brian Rodriguez also available to lead LAFC to the Supporters’ Shield. The team currently leads the Western Conference with 48 points in 22 games and a record of 15W-4L-3D to establish themselves as frontrunners for the title.
