Sky Germany as relayed by transfermarkt.de and other reliable German sources – reports that MLS club LAFC are taking an interest in FC Köln keeper Marvin Schwäbe. The Falcons have already blown up the summer transfer rumor mills with their reported interest in Bundesliga legend Thomas Müller. Another German footballer could soon be calling himself an Angelino.

Schwäbe reprised his role as Köln’s number one midway through the 2. Bundesliga season following Jonas Urbig’s departure to Bayern. The 30-year-old veteran now prepares to start between the sticks for the Effzeh in the top flight next year. After famously displacing Köln’s longtime number one in 2021, Schwäbe racked up 89 Bundesliga appearances.

A move to America’s MLS may or may not interest the Hessen-native at this stage of his career. Sky reports that current LAFC goalkeeping coach Oka Nikolov – who started for Eintracht Frankfurt during Schwäbe’s time at the SGE academy between 2010 and 2013 – has initiated contact with Schwäbe. An eventual replacement for French legend Hugo Lloris is sought at the California club.

In a recent club interview, Schwäbe appeared most enthusiastic about returning to the German top division with his current club. Moreover, Köln’s reliable Geißblog fan-site also doesn’t make much of the rumors. Playing behind Lloris likely wouldn’t appeal to Schwäbe. An American adventure after Lloris’ retirement could still prove possible.
