According to a fresh update from Florian Plettenberg, Nico Williams has firmly turned down Bayern Munich’s latest approach within the past 48 hours, making it clear that his heart is set on joining FC Barcelona.
The Athletic Club winger has now fully committed to the Catalan giants, with a verbal agreement in place for several days.
It is known that Barcelona president Joan Laporta continues to work hard to finalise the transfer. Talks between both clubs are ongoing, and Barça remain optimistic about completing the deal soon.
The release clause stands at €63 million, and the club is actively working on finding the right financial formula to pay it.
The Athletic Club forward has already agreed to personal terms with Barcelona. The proposed contract would see the 22-year-old sign a six-year deal, keeping him at Camp Nou until 2031.
Interestingly, Nico has accepted a salary between €6 million and €7 million per season, less than what was offered by Bayern Munich or what he could have earned by extending his stay at Athletic Club.

But for Nico, the choice is not about money. It is about where he wants to play, and that place is FC Barcelona.
His strong desire to wear the Blaugrana shirt has been key in pushing this deal closer to the finish line. Despite more lucrative offers elsewhere, his will to play for Barça has tipped the balance.
Now, the only step left is for Barcelona to activate the €62 million release clause.
Within the club, especially as highlighted in the recent case of Joan Garcia, this amount is considered a valuable investment, one they can’t afford to let pass, especially with the player himself fully aligned with their project.
Barcelona are confident that the deal will go through. With Nico’s commitment and the club’s determination, everything is in place for one of the most exciting signings of the summer.
