La Liga have officially taken Dani Olmo and Pau Victor off their website as players registered for Barcelona. The Blaugrana had until midnight on the 31st of January to ensure they remained there, but have not done so.
Barring a twist, Olmo and Victor will not be able to play for the rest of the season, as La Liga regulations state that players cannot be registered twice for the same club in the same season. Originally they had both been registered under an emergency injury rule using the salary of Andreas Christensen, who was ruled out for the first half of the season with an Achilles’ tendon problem.
The Danish international has now returned to La Liga’s website too. Barcelona’s job was to increase their salary limit sufficiently between September and December to be able to register Olmo and Victor without the emergency injury rule, but La Liga have put out a statement declaring that they have not presented any operations that would allow them to register new players. Barcelona, for their part, say they have applied for a licence for both players, but as things stand, neither will be able to play for the rest of the season.
Victor seems likely to head out on loan, but Olmo will now have a decision to make. Agent Andy Bara has decalred that Olmo will stay at Barcelona, but he has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for free with the full €48m due to him from the six-year contract if he is not registered.
