Sergio Ramos to Manchester United dependent on his wife Pilar Rubio

According to Sport Witness (h/t The Daily Star), Pilar Rubio, wife of Sergio Ramos, could help decide whether the player ends up at Manchester United.

The veteran defender is in the final few months of his contract at Real Madrid. With the summer fast approaching, his future is yet to be decided.

Both Liverpool and United have been linked with the 34-year-old. As things stand, his wife could play a major role in where he eventually ends up.

Ramos is keen to stay put and extend what has been a 16-year-old stay in the Spanish capital. Los Blancos too are keen to keep hold of their skipper beyond the summer.

Meanwhile, Rubio, who works as a reporter and TV presenter, is established in Madrid. She is not keen to give it all up and move to a new city were that to happen.

She is however willing to support her husband should he decide to leave Madrid.

With Ramos also set to take his wife’s preferences into account, the chances of him switching to England look remote.

It is not the first time that United have been linked with Ramos. The Spaniard was on the club’s radar during Louis van Gaal’s reign in 2015.

The Red Devils are ready to offer the Spaniard a two-year deal. However, whether that is in our best interests remains to be seen.

It was reported by the Athletic (Subscription Required) that Ramos is all set to stay on at Madrid. All the factors do indicate at that happening.

While Ramos’ legacy is not in doubt, his current ability is. At 34, he isn’t in his prime and is nearing his career. The club is better off bringing in another defender who can provide more of a long-term solution.
