Barcelona’s relationship with La Liga is evidently at the lowest possible point. Joan Laporta and Javier Tebas have openly taken jabs at each other during press conferences.
Barcelona, on the one hand, are tired of La Liga’s rigid FFP rules. They believe there should be more flexibility to allow for new signings and registrations, and that the current model hinders the competitiveness against other leagues, especially Premier League.
Meanwhile, the league have maintained their stance following COVID of not letting teams spend much more than they can afford in order to avoid another Malaga situation.
Most recently, Barcelona had taken Liga to court after they refused to register Gavi with the first team. The Catalans found a ruling in their favour today, which forces Tebas and co. to pen down the youngster’s new deal as part of the seniors.
Unsurprisingly, that is far from the end of it. According to the reliable Sique Rodriguez Gairi, La Liga has ‘accepted’ the judge’s decision, but have decided to appeal it, anyway.
The journalist also claims that Barcelona will not make any last-minute signings today, despite links to Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat, LA Galaxy’s Julian Araujo, and Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard, among a few others.
The club will instead focus on registering new deals, like that of Gavi and Araujo.
