Mallorca right-back Pablo Maffeo has revealed that contrary to the media reports, Barcelona did not approach the defender with any offer in the summer.

He went on to add that if the Blaugrana had ever knocked on his doors, he would have accepted the offer without thinking twice.

It’s no secret that Barcelona were hunting a right-back throughout the summer but as soon as they realised Joao Cancelo could be a reality, they decided not to pursue any other option.

Interestingly enough, while Villarreal’s Juan Foyth was said to be Barcelona’s contingency, the team from Catalonia also looked at other options such as Maffeo, and as reported before, the 26-year-old would have been available for just €6-8 million.

Maffeo was offered to Barça

A couple of months back, we reported that Maffeo’s services were presented to Barcelona by the player’s representatives.

However, at that juncture, it remained uncertain whether Barcelona were prepared to take action, as the player’s camp initiated the offer to the club, rather than the Catalans initiating any moves themselves.

When speaking about the entire speculation, the player revealed nothing of the sort ever happened during the transfer market.

In fact, although he was happy about the rumours, his dream move to Barcelona did not materialize as the Blaugrana never came up with an offer in the first place.

“They did not make any offers. I would have agreed with all my heart. What would you do when a team like Barcelona comes to you? It’s good that teams like this are interested in you but I’m doing very well in Mallorca,” said the 26-year-old during a chat with Jijantes FC.

As it turned out, Barcelona did manage to sign Cancelo from Manchester City towards the end and the move has worked wonders for everyone involved, with the 29-year-old already getting involved in three goals (G2, A1).
