Barcelona have a big issue ahead of the new season as they are being prevented from registering their new signings to the first team by La Liga.

Despite their deep financial crisis, Barcelona have been extravagant in the summer transfer window.

They have signed Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde, mainly with the help of the Spotify sponsorship deal and the activation of economic levers.

After triggering the first two economic levers – an income of around €667 million generated from the future sale of TV rights – the Catalan giants opted for the third lever – a 25% sale of Barca Studios – to comply with La Liga’s Financial Fair Play regulations.

Despite the reports that a fourth economic lever is on the cards, Barca may still struggle to register their new signings.

According to the Guardian, the La Liga audit has found that Barca had received only €512m from investors Sixth Street for the sale of two TV rights packages, with the Catalan giants paying the remaining €150m themselves.

La Liga have reportedly deemed it as not new income, which could now prove to be a stumbling block in registering their new signings.

With not much time left as the new season kicks off this weekend, Barca are maximising their efforts to sell players to reduce their wage bill and ease their financial issues.

Frenkie de Jong has long been touted for a move, but the Dutch midfielder is adamant about not leaving Camp Nou this summer.

Manchester United have been tracking the former Ajax star all summer, while Chelsea have also joined the race.

Recent reports claimed that Barca had found criminal evidence in De Jong’s previous contract signed during former president Josep Maria Bartomeu’s reign.

The Catalan club have also threatened to take legal action against the Netherlands international if he doesn’t revert to his previous deal.
