La Liga president Javier Tebas has this week fired a warning the way of champions Barcelona, over their respective transfer pursuits of Joan García, and Nico Williams.

This comes amid ongoing questions surrounding the financial capacity of the Blaugrana to register the pair for next season.

Goalkeeper Joan is of course expected to be announced as the latest member of Hansi Flick’s squad as soon as tomorrow.

Wide-man Nico, meanwhile, has reemerged as a leading figure in the Camp Nou boardroom over recent days, after Deco and co. made the call to reignite their long-term pursuit of the Espanyol star.

Speaking during an appearance in front of the media on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when the topic of both deals was put to the aforementioned Javier Tebas.

And in his response, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, La Liga’s president made use of the opportunity to urge caution:

“One thing is to make the signing of Joan García official and another, to register him. They have to make movements and see which players they are going to decide… I hear so much… I don’t know what is true of what is written. Barcelona is not in the 1:1 rule. I think the other day they announced the payment of Joan García’s clause, but I don’t know if they have already done it, I don’t understand much… Barça has to do things to be able to register him, not many, but they have to do things and they already know what they are, I’m not going to say them, but we don’t even have dates, we’ll see…”

Asked directly if Barcelona are in a financial position to pay Nico Williams’ Athletic Club release clause, Tebas continued:

“I don’t know, but in the end you hear so many [rumours]: Williams, the other one, the one with the motorcycle… First of all, that he would have to be registered is true, which I don’t know. But they (Barca) don’t yet meet the requirements to sign freely, they can’t sign yet under the 1:1 rule. If they want Nico, they will have to sell and adjust their accounts a lot.”
