FC Barcelona are set to take on Deportivo Alavés in La Liga on Sunday ahead of the international break. The Catalan club will be keen to end this period of club football on a high, just like they did against Real Valladolid last time around.

So far this season, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona has been built on the foundation of a very strong attack. The trio of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal is the best-performing attacking trident in Europe and one would expect the German coach to start them tomorrow.

Among the three, Lamine Yamal has followed up on a breakthrough campaign last season with an improved, mature second season where the 17-year-old is constantly chipping in with both goals and assists which is something he has added to his game.

During games, the teenager looks unstoppable, irrespective of what the opposition tries. Speaking about the 17-year-old phenom, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo, here is what Alaves coach Luis Garcia had to say about Lamine Yamal:

“Lamine is extraordinary, especially for his age. He’s going to be a generational player. Right now, he’s floating across the pitch, doing everything and doing it well”

At this point, Lamine has been racking up praises left, right, and center, with Brazilian legend Rivaldo recently speaking highly of him as well. The 17-year-old has the world at his feet but will want to keep his head down and continue.

Last weekend against Osasuna, everyone saw how much Barcelona missed Lamine Yamal in the 4-2 defeat. He was brought on in the second half and eventually got a consolation goal close to the full-time whistle.

In the midweek game against Young Boys, Barcelona ran riot but Lamine did not chip in with a goal or an assist. The 17-year-old will be keen to make amends when he faces Deportivo Alavés this weekend as the club looks to return to winning ways in the league.

As difficult as it may be, Barcelona fans need to be patient and realistic with Lamine Yamal. Over-dependence on him at such a young age is never a good thing and the team needs to find ways to win without him. Let’s see how the teenager fares against Luis Garcia’s Alavés on Sunday.
