Valencia vs Real Madrid at the Mestalla has proven to be one of the most entertaining fixtures of La Liga. Los Che always prove to be a handful for the record Spanish champions, often leading to dropped points.
Even yesterday, when Valencia hosted Madrid, a goal-a-piece from Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk helped them take a two-goal lead by 30 minutes.
And while Vinicius scored a brace, Ruben Baraja’s side held on to take the one point from the game, with the game ending in some serious controversy as Jude Bellingham’s late goal was disallowed.
The game had all the makings of a blockbuster movie, as it often does, but unfortunately, it has been marred with serious racial undertones.
Vinicius Jr has been targeted by the Valencia home support often, with the Brazilian even singling out fans who have thrown racist remarks at him in previous games.
And while many would have expected a much better reception for Vini yesterday after the couple of years of serious racial controversy, Mario Cortegana has reported that La Liga is investigating a video that surfaced online from the game yesterday.
The video shows a child calling Vinicius a ‘monkey’, and the woman who recorded the incident said that police were called during the game.
Vinicius had not forgotten incidents of the past against Valencia during the game, as he cupped his ears and also raised his fist towards the home support.
As has been the case so often in the past, La Liga will likely conduct an investigation into this incident, which will end in them issuing a warning to Valencia before eventually the same happens again next season.
