Oscar Mingueza made a name for himself after he burst into the first-team scene in November 2020. The youngster initially arrived as a backup centre-back but was later shifted to cover the right-back position.

According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Valencia are interested in signing the La Masia star. The sudden interest of the Spanish side is because of the imminent departure of Daniel Wass, who becomes a free agent in the summer.

And while the Spaniard is a central midfielder by trait, he can cover at right-back quite well

Barcelona currently have four players covering the right-back position. Dani Alves has regularly started under Xavi, while Mingueza has provided a valuable backup option. Sergi Roberto is set to become a free agent in the summer. The talented Sergino Dest seems to have fallen out of favour under the new manager and is yet to play a regular role.

The USMNT star’s possible departure has alerted several clubs across Europe, with Chelsea leading the race. If such reports are to be believed, it would be difficult to fathom the Catalans letting go of Mingueza too. On the other hand, a lucrative offer for the Spaniard star could also mean a second chance for Dest.

Last season, Mingueza played 23 La Liga games for his club, scoring two goals and providing as many assists. Defensively, he averaged two tackles, an interception and 3.3 duels won per ninety minutes.

This season, however, he has started only eight La Liga games donning the garnet and blue. His relatively shaky performances at right-back saw him quickly replaced, with Ronald Araujo or Eric Garcia deployed in his place.

The youngster’s departure would open up space on the wage bill for any future signings. Moreover, he could bring invaluable funds into the club’s treasury as they prepare for a massive summer.
