Xavi concedes that Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele could play his last match for Barcelona

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Barcelona’s last match of the season against Villareal as quoted by Football.London, Xavi Hernandez has conceded that Chelsea target Ousmane Dembele could play his last game for the Garnet and Blue today.

The former Borussia Dortmund man joined the Spanish giants in 2017 and has since then had a very mixed time at the Nou Camp. Whilst the French winger is an extraordinary player when fit, injuries have troubled him throughout his time at Barcelona.

This season though, the story seems to be a little different with the 25-year-old finally managing to largely stay fit and show his abilities under Xavia. In 31 appearances for the Blaugrana this season, the talented French forward has scored two goals and made a whopping 13 assists in this period.

Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele could be available on a free transfer

Dembele’s contract with the Spanish behemoths expires at the end of the current campaign and he is yet to pen a new deal with the Catalan club. Chelsea were said to be interested in signing the Frenchman back in January and could try to land him on a Bosman in the summer.

Snap him up?

If Dembele fails to renew with the Spanish club and becomes available on a free, there is no doubt that we should go all out to snap up the Frenchman.

We have a plethora of options in forward areas in Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Callum Hudson-Odoi all capable of playing on either of the wings. Despite this, adding Dembele to the ranks would offer the club something very different.

Dembele has been exceptional for Barcelona this season

Anybody who has seen the Frenchman play knows that the 25-year-old is an extraordinary dribbler who can take a flank on his own and has the ability to play penetrative passes and crosses into the box. Such attributes will come in handy for us, especially if we have Romelu Lukaku leading the line.

With his injury troubles seemingly behind him, and being available on a free, signing Dembele seems to make perfect sense. Having already played under Thomas Tuchel at Dortmund, this reunion could turn out to be beneficial for both parties involved.

This Dembele saga promises to be a very interesting one. If he does sign for us, we could be getting a serious player on our hands.
