LA Galaxy Should Be Aware of These Three Tijuana Players on Thursday

Thursday night mark's the first match for the LA Galaxy in the 2025 Leagues Cup. The other two California-based MLS teams that are in the tournament, LAFC and San Diego FC, suffered defeat in their first games earlier this week.

If the 2024 MLS Cup winners hope to avoid the same fate, they will need strong performances from stars like Marco Reus, Gabriel Pec, and more. Reus is the reigning Player of the Month for the LA Galaxy and has played like it in July.

Luckily, the Los Angeles Galaxy will play a team that they have seen before on this stage, Club Tijuana. Here are the potential standouts from Tijuana's roster that the Galaxy need to be ready for and why.

1. Joe Corona

Though this midfielder recently turned 35, he is familiar with the LA Galaxy. Corona played for the MLS juggernaut in 2019 and 2020.

During his two seasons with the LA Galaxy he recorded two goals and three assists. He helped them make a playoff appearance in 2019.

2. Jackson Porozo

This tall defender is young and quick. The Ecuador native is about turn 25 next month.

However, in three starts for Club Tijuana, Porozo has helped his team to an 1-1-1 start to open the Mexican Liga BBVA MX

At 6'4'', Porozo will be problematic for Gabriel Pec, Joseph Paintsil and Marco Reus when they try to score on Thursday.

3. Antonio Rodríguez

After their first three games, Club Tijuana has only allowed four goals. That's thanks in part to the man in goal, Antonio Rodriguez.

The 33-year-old star could be tough to score on. He has made 12 saves already in those three games.

During the 2022-23 Liga BBVA MX season, Rodriguez set career-highs in saves (61) and clean sheets (5). He is on pace to break both this year.

Kickoff for Thursday night's game between the LA Galaxy and Club Tijuana starts at 8:00 p.m. (PT) and 11:00 p.m. (ET).
