Kylian Mbappé’s (25) family is in advanced talks regarding the takeover of Ligue 2 side Stade Malherbe Caen, according to both RMC Sport and Ouest-France. The Normandy outfit is currently owned by American asset management firm Oaktree Capital Management, which also owns Serie A champions Inter. However, Oaktree have recently informed Caen minority shareholder Pierre-Antoine Capton they would withdraw from the club’s ownership, leaving Capton in search of new investors.
RMC Sport pundit Daniel Riolo broke the news this Thursday that Kylian Mbappé’s family have taken an interest in buying the Ligue 2 club, intending to increase their body of activities. In addition to the career management of Kylian and Ethan Mbappé, the France captain’s family controls IBKM (Inspired by Kylian Mbappé) – a charity foundation – as well as a players’ agency.
Ouest-France has confirmed this Friday that Kylian Mbappé’s family business – spearheaded by his mother, Fayza Lamari – is indeed interested in acquiring a majority share in Caen’s ownership with talks set at an advanced stage. The Normandy club, which has trialled a young Kylian Mbappé in his tender age, have finished the previous Ligue 2 season in sixth place.
