Kylian Mbappé’s second appearance as full-time France captain was a somewhat less bombastic performance than his first. Against Ireland, the Paris Saint-Germain man was unable to break free from Nathan Collins’ grasp, although Les Bleus did eventually come through with the win thanks to a last-minute Mike Maignan wonder save.

After the PSG man’s half-time speech during Les Bleus’ win over The Netherlands on Friday, several players in last night’s mixed zone were asked about Mbappé’s remarks this time – with the skipper speaking at the end of the win in Dublin.

His remarks reported by RMC, midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni pointed out that the forward was “proud” of the team’s performance, as was the rest of the dressing room: “Especially after a win like today’s, it’s not easy to come and win here.”

Defender Ibrahima Konaté added that Mbappé was not the only one to take the floor at full-time: “Everyone has some leadership in them in this team, and that’s what’s good.”

Les Bleus meet up again in June for the next two games of their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, this time for a trip to Gibraltar before hosting Greece back at the Stade de France.
