Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé made use of the opportunity to send a message of tribute the way of former Liverpool frontman Diogo Jota late last night.
This came after the Frenchman found the net during Los Blancos’ Club World Cup meeting with Borussia Dortmund.
The subject of Jota’s passing has of course dominated the headlines across world football for several days now.
Since shock confirmation was forthcoming that the Portuguese had been killed in a car accident in Spain, a dark cloud has been cast over the game as a whole.
Tributes and messages of strength have come pouring in for Jota and his family, from fans, players, coaches an more.
And as alluded to above, late on Saturday, one more was forthcoming, courtesy of Kylian Mbappé.
Introduced off the bench during Real Madrid’s Club World Cup quarter-final meeting with Borussia Dortmund, attacker Mbappé went on to notch a crucial goal deep into injury-time.
And after wheeling away in celebration, the Frenchman held up a ‘two’ and ‘zero’ in front of the cameras.
This was a clear tribute to the aforementioned Diogo Jota, who made use of the no.20 as his jersey number:
