It has been almost half a year since Lionel Messi left Paris Saint-Germain in favour of a move to Inter Miami in the United States.

Since his move across the Atlantic, Messi has enjoyed a stellar spell in the MLS, notably racking up 11 goals and five assists in just 14 competitive matches.

In a recent media interaction, Messi’s former PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe has opened up on the Argentine’s departure.

Kylian Mbappe on Messi’s time at PSG

Mbappe, who has recently raised eyebrows by commenting on his future at PSG, suggested that Messi did not get enough respect during his time in France.

“Messi deserves all the respect in the world but he didn’t get the respect he deserved in France. It’s a shame,” Mbappe said (h/t ESPN).

The comments from the Frenchman are hardly surprising as Messi indeed endured a difficult end to his spell at PSG.

When speculation started to emerge regarding his potential exit from PSG, the French supporters started to boo the Argentine international.

Messi was booed multiple times even at Parc des Princes, which may have played a key role in convincing the veteran forward to leave the club.

The former Barcelona superstar eventually left the club in the summer. He was closely linked with a return to Catalonia, but the club were not in a position to afford the move.

Messi ultimately joined Inter Miami and is now partnered by his former Barça teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

As for Mbappe, the Frenchman’s days at PSG, too, could be numbered. Despite recently confirming an agreement with PSG, the attack remains in contention to leave Parc des Princes in the summer, with Real Madrid waiting on the wings.
