As the saga surrounding his future rages on back in Paris, Kylian Mbappé has taken some time before the start of pre-season to visit his father’s native Cameroon, where he will notably play a friendly for a local second division outfit.

But in the wake of Wednesday’s public ultimatum put forward by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi – extend past the end of next year or the club will look to sell him – the France captain could not avoid questions on his future.

As reported by Le Parisien this evening, the 24-year-old was asked about “where Kylian would be playing soon“, the forward gave an elusive, tongue-in-cheek answer in the third person: “Kylian is in Cameroon for the time being, and that’s the most important thing. I want to make the most of my stay, get the most out of my holidays. I want to enjoy being with the people of Cameroon, that’s my only concern.”

While in his father’s country of birth, Mbappé will also discuss several projects he is undertaking to help the country, having met with Prime Minister, Joseph Dion Ngute. Speaking after the meeting, the France captain indicated that some of the initiatives had already begun and involved working with schools, while others could not be revealed yet.

Mbappé ostensibly has until the end of the month to trigger the one-year extension clause in the contract he signed in the spring of 2022 – although in practice, he could very well stay at the club this coming season in any case, as has been his stated intention.
