Kylian Mbappé has released a statement insisting that Paris Saint-Germain knew last year of his desire to leave once his current deal expires.

Mbappé’s contract with PSG ends in 2024 and reports on Monday claimed that the striker had sent a letter to the hierarchy this week to confirm his intention not to sign an extension.

However Mbappé has now put the record straight by insisting that PSG knew of his intention not to extend his deal as early as last year and that the letter sent yesterday was just a reiteration of his desire to depart.

“The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them,” he wrote in a statement.

Reports have since circulated that PSG will now look to sell Mbappé this summer rather than lose him on a free in 12 months time.

Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City have all been linked with his signature.
