Kylian Mbappé is already one of football’s most recognisable names but could he have signed Real Madrid instead of PSG?
Of course, a player of that quality is always being linked to various clubs but following the latest reports, it was a lot closer than many of us ever imagined.
According to information from Football Leaks, Real Madrid agreed a €214m agreement with Monaco in July 2017 to sign Mbappé.
But as negotiations hit a wall over who would pay the €34m fee in taxes, the teenager opted to join Paris Saint-Germain instead.
With a deal hanging in the balance, the Parisians offered €180m to Monaco which could not be taxed due to transfer taking place in France. Deal done.
€55m over five years
According to these same documents, Mbappé was handed a €5m signing-on bonus and a €10m per-year contract – which will last for five seasons.
As if this wasn’t enough, the club are so desperate to keep the player, he will receive a yearly sign-on bonus of €7m for the 2018/19 season and €12m in the last year of his contract.
Incredible demands
The 19-year-old seems pretty down to earth but when there’s a €200m price tag on your head, keeping your feet planted can be hard.
Mbappé reportedly wanted his wages trebled after a Ballon d’Or win and free private jet use.
After long talks, the club offered him €30,000 for rent and provided him with three employees: a security guard, a driver and a butler.
