Kylian Mbappé is ‘following the Eden Hazard roadmap’ to Real Madrid, according to a well-sourced story in the Spanish press on Friday.
AS, who have a direct line to the powers-that-be at Santiago Bernabéu, say that the Paris Saint-Germain superstar will join Los Blancos and it’s a case of when not if.
They say that the World Cup winner is essentially following the same path as Hazard, who made his feeling about a move to Madrid abundantly clear during his time at Chelsea.
The Belgian admitted after the 2018 World Cup that he was keen to sign for Zinedine Zidane’s men but had to wait another 12 months before he got his wish.
Mbappé has similarly been fluttering his eyelashes at Real Madrid over the past few months, admitting that Zidane was his “idol” growing up and that “Cristiano Ronaldo’s career is an inspiration”.
Mbappé’s contract at PSG runs until 2022 and the striker has put talks on hold as he waits for a switch to Spain.
It seems unlikely that he will leave the Parc des Princes this summer but come 2021 will only have a year left on his deal.
Hazard was similarly in a situation where he joined Real Madrid with a year left on his Chelsea contract, with the Liga giants paying €120m for his services.
