L’Équipe are reporting that France forward Kylian Mbappé (23) is missing from France training this afternoon, just four days before Les Bleus’ World Cup quarter-final against England.

Mbappé is currently the top scorer in the competition and is seen as France’s greatest threat. His five goals in Qatar have seen him pass Zinédine Zidane in the all-time France goal-scoring charts, whilst he is also looking to catch Just Fontaine’s World Cup-scoring record. The Frenchman has 13 World Cup goals, all scored in the 1958 tournament.

However, the Paris Saint-Germain forward was absent from group training at the Jassim-bin-Hamad stadium on Tuesday, two days after France’s 3-1 Round of 16 victory against Poland. Monday was designated as a rest day, the first for the France squad since the beginning of the tournament.

The France staff have indicated that Mbappé is doing recovery work in the gym, whilst the rest of the squad trains on the pitch. It is peculiar that he is the only player to be doing gym work, whilst the other members of the squad train collectively.
