John Stones was jokingly tipped for the World Cup Golden Boot following the defender’s brace in England’s 6-1 victory over Panama on Sunday.
However, one supporter’s tongue-in-cheek promise before the Group G game backfired and soon went viral, even catching the attention of Stones’ England and Manchester City team-mate Kyle Walker.
Twitter user @jessmcfc posted: “If John Stones scores tomorrow I’ll get a tattoo of him.”
Fast forward to Sunday evening and Walker had offered to fund the inking following the unlikely occurrence.
Former Everton centre-back Stones scored two headers as the Three Lions brushed aside Panama to qualify for the knockout stages and set up a first-place decider with Belgium in the third and final group game.
