Kyle Walker playing at centre-back is England’s weak link as he is ‘not a real defender’, according to former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
The Manchester City right-back has been deployed in a back three by Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate but some have questioned the decision.
England have progressed to the knockout stages ahead of the final Group G game against Belgium but failed to keep a clean sheet against Tunisia and Panama.
And for Wenger, the reason is down to the make-up of the England defence and Walker’s position in particular.
“He’s not a real defender, and especially not a central defender,” Wenger told beIN SPORT.
“He can be subject to defensive mistakes, which he would not pay for when he plays as a right-back.”
Used to bombing down the wing and causing a threat on the right, England supporters will be hoping Walker will be equally efficient in the middle as the tournament progresses.
