Manchester City captain Kyle Walker is at risk of a second consecutive snub by England interim head coach Lee Carsley heading towards the October international break.

The 33-year-old is currently in the midst of a challenging campaign for Manchester City and at international level with England, struggling to take on a consistent run of game time for either side, largely due to the form of others.

Walker was a late arrival back into the Manchester City set-up in the summer, having been granted an extended summer’s break following his exploits with the England national team at the European Championships.

That extended break issued a clear opportunity for Rico Lewis to stake his claim for the starting right-back berth under Pep Guardiola, and the 19-year-old has certainly taken that chance with both hands, excelling in a variety of roles for the Premier League champions.

Despite a slight upturn in form for Kyle Walker, and reclaiming his captain’s armband at the Etihad Stadium following the latest leadership vote within the first-team squad, a new report has revealed that his struggles could continue at national team level.

That is according to the information of MailSport’s Sami Mokbel, who claims that there is uncertainty over whether Walker will be named in the next England squad, having missed out on the previous roster in September.

As mentioned, Walker has since undergone somewhat of a resurgence under Guardiola and has slotted back into his right-back role more often. However, any further omission from Lee Carsley’s squad would no doubt intensify concerns over his longer-term international future.

A permanent exit from the England national team would also raise the question as to whether Kyle Walker could bring an end to his top-level career with Manchester City at some stage in the near future.

The veteran defender – who has no doubt been one of the greatest to grace the Premier League in his position – has openly discussed his intention or desire to close out his career with a return to current-Championship side Sheffield United.

“As long as my legs are going and I feel I can contribute at a certain level. I don’t want to drop too low, I think it gets harder – certain things you have the luxury of having at City – facilities or nutrition – but I’d like to finish at Sheffield United,” Walker said earlier this year.

He continued, “I was there from a young age until I went to Tottenham. I went back on loan for half a season… I’d go for as long as possible but to give back or even pass on my experience to younger players, if I can then I’d like to.”
